Grass silage
Grass silage is a convenient way to ensure that your livestock have good quality feed all year round. Although popular in Europe, grass silage is still in its infancy in South Africa. Some of the benefits include:
- The risk of fire damage is less than that for bales.
- Grass silage is easy to mix into a ration for feedlots and dairies.
- When made well grass silage can be kept for a year or even longer.
- There is no waiting for the grass to dry before baling, so silage can be made when feed potential of the grass is highest and even if it looks like it might rain.
Green-chop is also a viable option for feedlots and with a Pöttinger alpha motion front mounted mower and forage wagon combination, feedlot cattle can be fed with a single pass operation.
